Bring Your Character to Life

Students,

Your next assignment is to bring your character design to life. Create a 2 second animation of your character turning its head at 15 frames per second. It could be reacting to something unseen, or just turning to look in a different direction, or even turning to point at something. Use your imagination and keep the motion in line with your characters personality. Use your creativity. Develop your pencil test, create a sample animation, then return to ink the drawing to prepare it for digital coloring.

Assignment Specs:
  • Create a head-turn animation of your character at 15 frames per second, for a total of 30 frames
  • Create the frames as a pencil test animation using the animation paper and a lighttable
  • Shoot the frames and assemble an animation test as seen below
  • Scan each frame and render each frame with clean lines in Adobe Illustrator, focus on line quality and retaining character detail
  • When line art is complete add a color layer to create the final artwork for your animation frames
  • Assemble final animation frames in Adobe Photoshop/Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere and render a final animation. Convert this to an animated Gif and post next to your animated pencil test
