Welcome to ROP Graphic Design 2

Hello Students,
Welcome to Graphic Design 2, a new ROP course at Santa Cruz High School!

In this course we will be studying animation processes and techniques, from hand drawn animation to 2D and 3D digital animation. Lessons in this unit will teach students about the history of animation, from the first inventions to present day techniques.

This is an advanced class, students will work independently and as a group to study, research, develop and create animations. Students will work with the instructor to learn digital animation tools once the beginning units on Art and Animation History, Intro to Art Theory and Fundamentals and Animation Process and Principles are completed.

Assignment 1:
History of Animation

Tasks:

• Read and view all materials in "History of Animation" section of CTE Online Animation Model Curriculum. Watch each video in "Key Historical Animated Films" section and read/download/watch/view accompanying material. Follow all external links and read/watch those resources as well.
• On a sheet of paper write down the name, the artist, the year of each piece being viewed, as well as the historical and cultural significance of the piece as noted by the instructor. 
• Record 3-5 observations,questions, or comments about the formal, literal, or expressive qualities of the pieces. (Things like the materials, the methods, the story, the characters, the principles employed, the style or aesthetics of the piece, etc.)
• Students should meet to share observations, questions, or comments. Discuss, respond.

History Of Animation Presentation:

• Using presentation software such as powerpoint, keynote, iphoto... create a slideshow that presents the history of animation through visuals and images, etc. 
• Use your previous graphic experience to make a compelling and informative presentation
• Find music that will fit the tone and mood of your presentation
• Make it professional and polished!
• Turn in with all notes, observations etc
• Be prepared to deliver your presentation to the class
• Due by friday the 7th
